About Sri Yoga

Sri Yoga Center: Studio Sakti

Sri Yoga Center is Ohio's largest yoga center; situated near the corner of Leo Street and Webster Street in Dayton, Ohio (1.8 miles north of Webster Street Market and 54 seconds off I-75) in a 2 story, 9,000 sq. ft. building that previously housed the Druids Club. Sri Yoga Center comprises 2 yoga studios, 1 massage room, a modest yoga library with a reading area-lounge, and a meditation room.

Sri (technically śrī), like all Sanskrit words, is rich and complex in meaning and implication and very difficult (if not impossible to translate). Sri means beauty, abundance, wealth (material and spiritual); Sri is the power of nourishment, preservation, success; Sri is an honorific prefix; Sri is the most sublime knowledge in the luminous path of Tantra Yoga. Thus, Sri Yoga can be (very loosely) translated as "the beautiful yoga that yields abundance".

Our goal is to offer authentic yogic teachings in an affordable, accessible, professional manner without New Age distortion. To this end, Sri Yoga Center offers yoga classes for practitioners of all levels and massage in the greater Dayton area. All the yoga teachers at Sri are highly trained and continue to study and practice yoga daily. At Sri Yoga Center, we primarily teach Sakti Vinyasa Yoga and its related and complementary styles. Sakti Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic and vigorous approach that emphasizes core strength as a foundation for strength and flexibility. The complementary SloFlo Yoga has a more meditative quality and moves at a slower pace.

Philosophically, we follow the traditions of Classical Yoga (as codified in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras) and Vedanta. Practically, we weave liberal doses of Bhakti and Tantra into our approach, with a strong emphasis on asana and ahimsa. All ready students desiring to dive deeper into the practice will be guided on an individual basis in the more subtle practices and the more rigorous kriyas.

Our hope is that the practice of yoga allows us to improve all our relationships and interactions with everyone and everything. This is only possible by first understanding ourselves more clearly on the levels of body, breath, mind and beyond. The fruits of this deeper understanding and connection are a healthier body, a calmer mind and a more loving heart. This is what we offer to all who come to Sri Yoga Center in Dayton, Ohio.
