Chanting
Most of our classes
begin with simple chants in order to set an intention
with our practice and are used as a means to take us
from the bustle of the outside world to the calm inside
our practice together. These chants are universal
and can be chanted by people of all faiths and belief
systems.
Opening Chants
In Sanskrit: "Lokah samasta
sukhino bhavantu"
Pronounced:
Low-Kah Sah-mah-stah Sue-key-no
Bah-vahn-too
In English: May all beings
everywhere, be happy and free.
Three "OMs" proceed the opening chant.
Yoga scriptures tell us our entire cosmos vibrates OM, and by
chanting OM, we are thereby connecting ourselves
to all creation.
Three "Shantis" close the opening chants.
Shanti means peace in Sanskrit.
